Heading out here this morning for a bit of phantom fit tree watering!
Love making a workout of carrying these drums of water to the trees, stopping every so often doing some push ups, squats, handstands and headstands.
Also have 2 apple trees to phantom plant today too, one of them being for a young girl that spotted me in the street and asked me, whats your dogs name?
When I said wee betty she said I know who you are! I follow you!
The next day I got a message from her saying she was so pleased to meet me and that she would love to come and plant a tree sometime.
I said to come along on Sunday and I'll have an apple tree for you to plant.
Its the younger generations that I really love to try and take the time to bring out phantom planting.
It's important to respect the younger generations, I learned this from my delboy dad, he always said the young ones grow up one day so be careful how you treat them.
My delboy dad always knew who the toughest kids were also in our estate and made an even more of an effort with them.
Then with all his dodgy dealings like containers and lorries of ciggies and booze coming and going daily even the kids on the street had his back.
Guess I'm trying to do the same thing only I'm wanting the kids to look after my phantom planted trees.
And its working in the estate, over the years I've taken out so many kids and families from the estate planting memorial trees giving so many connections with the trees that we have only had 3 out of over 700 fruit trees damaged.
One neighbour came out one day saying you must have put the fear of god into the council grass cutters! I said whys thats? He said he has never seen a grass cutter take his time so much cutting round the trees!
I couldn't stop laughing when he told me this!
Even the grass cutters respect the trees also.
I've always said I'm not out to rub anyone up the wrong way in my phantom planting, I'm out to convert and recruit everyone to become phantom planters.
Common sense phantom planting always.
A few simple guidelines are,
Always plant 5 metres from a path or road so no falling fruit causes a problem.
Never plant under power lines or inline with manholes of sewers.
Always plant 5 metres away from other trees and lampposts as to give grass cutters space to cut around.
And lastly, never forget about your trees, always keep the grass tidy around the base and for the first couple of years keep it well watered.
Follow all these guidelines and there's no reasons why we can make whole streets and estates urban orchards for everyone!
