What not to do again!
Pre digging holes for tree planting is something I wont be doing again!
We thought this would be an amazing idea to pre dig all the holes and leave the soil we pull out all nice and fluffy for packing back in around the tree.
With the Northern Ireland weather here which consists of a lot of rain, all the holes filled with water and the soil we had broken up for adding back in with the tree became like a mud bath.
Its really strange what has happened as when we dug fresh new holes yesterday the ground was not waterlogged at all, the soil came out all nice and fluffy.
I dont understand why this water has not drained away when the rest of field is not waterlogged.
When trying to pack this wet sticky mud in around the tree more of it was sticking to my hands and boots than going in with the tree, it was a complete mess, never again guys will I pre dig holes!
Anyhow we got about another 20 apple trees planted yesterday and all the pre dug holes planted up.
Really looking forward to getting stuck in today planting as many trees as we can.
Think we have around 160 trees planted already with around another 140 to go.
