"The Ardoyne Rebel"
Planted about another 15 apple trees yesterday at our new orchard. 5 of them are new crossbred Irish varieties that a breeder gave me. I did a post that I'm going to be naming some of these trees for the catholic community as we have some trees in the orchard named in relation to the protestant communities.
So I've named one "The Ardoyne Rebel" as thats where my wee mum was from and this is what I would have called her.
Another has been named "Heart Sutra" by a good friend of mine and my big right hand man named one "Turkingtons Delight".
We still have 2 more to name which I'm going to pick these from you guys very soon from the list of comments in my previous posts talking about this when I was asking for some recommendations.
Over 300 fruit trees have now been planted up here, its been some work doing all this, all the trees have been carefully planted, mulched and caged to protect from any rabbits.
This orchard when it is grown up in a few years time and starts producing apples is for everyone to go and help themselves.
There are apples here like you've never tasted before, all native Irish apples that you wont ever see in the shops.
Yesterday I seen the first visitors up looking for their memorial trees, they managed to find them ok and was asking could they leave stuff at the tree, I said no probs at all.
Its so nice to see how many people come and visit their memorial trees at our other Belvoir memorial orchard aka The Phantom Planters HQ.
Over the years doing this I've seen so many families have great joy and reflection visiting their trees and dropping stuff off at them.
If you are going to be dropping stuff at your trees at the orchard try and make its like a permanent plaque or like a painted rock I've seen before that looks good. No flowers or plastics please as these just blow everywhere and start to get a bit messy.
We still have loads of unnamed memorial trees at the orchard if anyone would like to sponsor one get in touch. You'll get a name tag hand stamped with your loved ones name added to the tree and your contribution will help support the vital upkeep of this orchard.
Please do support us guys on the link below. So much time and effort has been going into this, we need all the help we can get.
