Mindful training.
When I was a kid the guy that owned the gym I went too was in amazing shape. He was an old man to me back then. Probably the same age as me now!!
But I used to always watch and admire him, his training was super slow with light enough weights.
Back then all I wanted to do was lift the biggest weight I could for as many reps as I could.
Training this way messed with my body over years. Shoulder injuries, back problems and generally not enjoying the gym, as most of the time I was trying to be better than my last session putting my head away.
The ego is never happy.
Where does it end?
It ends when something goes pop and you become a has been. So many of them out there.
These days I bring meditation into training. Breath and focus on every rep. Put as much isometric resistance on the targeted muscle group as possible. You gotta feel the burn, every rep squeeze and pause.
Don't get caught up with how heavy your lifting or the numbers game either.
I'm generally feeling better than I've ever been training this way.
I read an old school body builder say before that our muscles don't know reps or weight. All they know is the resistance you put on them.
I'm very mindful about caring for and respecting my body.
Many years ago I got so caught up in calisthenics. Pushing myself to my limit and when it came to tree planting my energy levels and motivation was gone.
I achieved my goals in calisthenics, muscle up, pistol squat and handstand. Once I got them it became weighted muscle ups, God knows how many pistol squats and handstand push-ups. I near wrecked my shoulder again training like this.
Never again. I got Atlantic Rainforests to plant, that's my goal in life is to keep my body planting and chanting for many years to come.
Be mindful of the ego training. We are just fragile humans.
Many run around like they are some sort of invincible machines these days full of the TRT. Love that gym phrase, I'm not on steroids I'm on TRT. Gotta laugh at this one!!! Speaking for my past self also here.
Come face to face though with a Lion or a Gorilla, you'll realise how fragile you really are.
I'm coming 45 BTW. Intermittent fast daily and eat anything I want. Try to keep my diet as natural as I can but if I'm eating at friends houses I'll eat everything that's offered with gratitude.
Peace and love
