Irish yews for my cabin.

Bought myself some Irish yew trees yesterday to plant in pots around my new cabin.

You know I couldn't find Irish yew trees grown from Irish yew trees in Ireland. These ones were grown in France!

Many other Irish yews are grown in Holland.

It's really got me thinking, I may take a trip down to Florence Court in Enniskillen were the original Irish yew still stands and get cuttings from to grow my own.

All other Irish yew trees around the world descended from the Florence Court yew.

If you were to grow a seed from an Irish yew it reverts back to a common yew. So to keep the Irish yew genetics you have to take cuttings.

Another tree I'm pretty passionate about is our native prostrating juniper. I have some of these growing too. Known as the mountain yew.

The yew kills as it's deadly poisonous and the juniper heals. They both are the only known conifers to produce a berry.

So much mystery surrounding these 2 trees.

Both these trees live for thousands of years. Some say the yew is immortal.

Have a great weekend.

Peace and love
