Canker sores
This apple tree had a real bad canker sore in the main stem of the tree which some say canker is incurable. Its a type of rot that spreads on your stem and branches and will eventually kill the tree.
When its on a branch you can cut the whole branch off and hope for the best, but when its in the main stem like this I have seen it kill a few of my apple trees in the past.
A lady on here said to me a few years ago that if you cut out the canker as best you can and cover the area with bitumen paint it cures the canker and will stop it spreading. She has been doing it for years she said.
We did just that on this apple tree about a year ago and look at it now! There is definitely no signs of canker here.
Still to this day though I've never seen a James Grieves apple tree variety get canker. I've seen canker on so many apple tree varieties over the years but never on a JG!
If your looking a tree to phantom plant that will grow healthy and strong in our Northern Irish climate, good old Scottish James Grieves is a good bet. I have never even seen a JG tree get sick or look unhealthy.
I challenge you to phantom plant a tree
Peace and love
The Phantom Planter
