Magical memories

On Sunday we had 2 young kids up helping out planting trees at our Lisnabreeny orchard. I was telling them of the spiral we made in the next field and that if you make a wish at the yew tree in the centre then walk all the way out your wish might come true.

Next thing the both of them went and made a wish at the yew and walked all the way out of the spiral.

The youngest kid has a special interest in fairies and I told her that Lisnabreeny means in Irish "fort of the fairy dwelling". She was well impressed. She had all sorts of fairy stories to tell me herself.

Both these kids were a great help with the planting. Honestly, this is the second time now they have came out with me planting and they are so into it. I think the little girl must be around 7 and the brother about 10.

They're parents as well have been a great help too. They all came along with litter pickers at hand and got stuck in.

There is now close to 400 heritage Irish apple trees planted at this site and I think we have space for close to 500. What a special place this will be when its all finished.

It is pretty magical how things unfold in life when your doing work with good intentions for nature and community. How the land came about, how all the right people came about at the right time.

I couldn't have asked for this to all happen any better than the way its unfolding.

I grew over 400 apple trees in the past year, I could have sold these easily all in one go for a tenner each. Thats 4k I could have got. Yes I do need the money at times when my day job is slow. But it really got me thinking about my love of money in the past and how its all pretty selfish and meaningless. What would I have done with that 4k? Save it up and add to a fat hamster stash! Go on holiday, self gratify, buy stuff I dont really need., get caught up in the game of chasing paper and digits again! Is that what life is really all about? I'm not so sure.

I choose to give my trees for the benefit of community and nature and the people who I have met in the process of doing this is worth a million pounds.

Honestly these kids walking the spiral and making a wish is worth more to me than any paper or digit. If I had of sold my trees none of these connections and magical events would not have happened.

Its a different type of richness one feels when we try and live selflessly for the benefit of nature and community.

I challenge you to phantom plant a tree guys and do your bit for nature and community.

Peace and love
