For many years now myself and The Paramili-Trees SAS ( Special Acorn Service) branch have been collecting acorns of all these ancient masters above. I have been germinating and growing the acorns myself and now so happy to get them all planted up in our oak spiral creating a museum of all the most famous and iconic oak trees on these islands.
In many years to come when these oaks cross pollinate the acorns produced will carry the genetics of all the UK and Irelands most ancient oak trees. These genetics could be very precious for the future of oak trees.
What I find really cool is the Big Belly oak in the pics. Me and wee betty collected acorns from this beauty many years ago. Check it out the way the baby oak has been growing, its got a bit of a belly like its mother tree!
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I'm back at it today again, going to go and buy some wind guard and put around the acorns, Its very exposed and some of these acorns have came from the warmer parts of the UK. Best I try and make them feel as much at home as possible.
I'm going to wrap the wind guard around the chicken mesh as in one of the pics. You can see a large plastic tube in the centre. I decided yesterday to hedge my bets and plant some of the acorns inside this tube to act as propagator. I've planted some acorns around the plastic tube and a few on the inside. Which ever ones grow the best I will be picking just one and pulling out the rest next winter when dormant and replanting elsewhere. Something has just been telling me to sow the acorns directly into the ground and nurture them from there. I want the trees to grow as close to their natural ways as possible.
Feel free to drop me a couple of quid below, this mission is all self funded, my heart and soul has went into this. A labour of love though but in this day and age we all need money.
